2025 was huge for tech — but what about 2026? Will the next year spark a wave of IPOs? Will self-driving cars take over the U.S? We explore the up and coming trends
Really comprehensive round-up of where things are headed. The IPO wave unlocking billions for equity holders while AI simultaneuosly displaces millions of workers is gonna be a massive policy flashpoint. Thats not just a wealth gap widening, its capital flowing entirely away from labor at the exact moment when job stability evaporates. 2026 could get messy fast.
Great write-up, Ollie! Some of these trends seem to be taking a turn for the worse, although the presentation and visual display of the information is really helpful to digest what's going on in the world.
I'm bullish on voice as the input modality we will increasingly feel more comfortable with, and it will become the default in a variety of ways. I just booked a plumber that was using an incredibly realistic AI Agent complete with natural intonation and the ability to carry along with the conversation after my toddler interrupted us. Couple that with Eleven's systems, Regal.ai and Sierra integrating AI deeply into the customer support journey, and some of the best voice to text transcription I've ever encountered when using ChatGPT's microphone functionality, you can quickly see how voice is the most important design layer UX/UI needs to account for.
Alex Cohen on X built a voice first to-do list that *actually* feels like the virtual assistant we have wanted for ages: share what needs to be done in natural voice, it categorizes and manages it and even executes tasks depending on whats asked. You just use a hot button on your phone and never open the app again.
The graph about small business owners was eye opening... didn't realise there was such a gap between men and women. And the fact that they are getting younger can only be a good thing!
I am 80 but this article gets me excited!
