Such a great read Jenny! Replit has recently released Agent 3, have you tried it? I'm honestly impressed by how much better it's gotten.

You can select the level of autonomy you give to the agent. And run bug hunts and other tests. It even spins its own workspace & screen, so you can watch the test real time.

Sweet! I’ve done different autonomous levels, that was truly helpful. Spinning its own workspace & screen is new to me, and sounds really powerful!

Finally, a side-by-side real-world comparison that cuts through the AI platform hype. So helpful to see where tools shine vs. where they fall flat on their digital faces.

What’s one feature you wish all these platforms would get right straight out of the gate?

I’d love to see all platforms make external API calls seamlessly.

Appreciate the kind comments Mel!

Wonder how would've Cursor performed?

Expand full comment
Jenny Ouyang's avatar

Cursor is the next-level agent as it runs locally and is far less restrictive in resources.

Jenny, which tools that run locally would be comparable to Cursor?

There are several options, Claude Code, Windsurf, Devin, all pretty good.

I mostly use Cursor and Claude Code for local projects because they already work very well with my flow.

Very helpful breakdown! I’ve always assumed these tools were glorified landing page generators…but clearly they’ve evolved!

They really evolved, at a scary pace too! I’m sure you will find new breakthroughs when you next pivot :)

Great breakdown! The key isn’t the “best” platform, it’s which one fits your build style and workflow. Replit for engineering rigor, Lovable for product polish, choose your ally wisely.

this detailed comparison is invaluable, the finding that different platforms suit different building styles is a key insight. Love the breakdown of 'platform personalities...makes choosing the right tool so much clearer for a specific project phase or team skillset.

This was a great read! I hadn’t considered it before, but the platform you select isn't solely about features; it reflects a particular approach to development, influencing not only your product but also your perspective on problems.
